Our Nursery Unit is an integral part of Taughmonagh Primary School. We have a beautiful new building which was opened in 2010. It currently caters for 52 children in their pre-school year funded by the Department of Education. We run two full time classrooms with class teacher and classroom assistant attached to each class. Our children come from a number of surrounding areas and it is lovely seeing them transition in to their P1 year.
We recognise that the pre-school years are where children have a natural curiosity, sense of wonder and amazement. It is our aim to build upon these skills and help your child to flourish. Early childhood is the most important phase of development. Healthy early child development, which includes physical, social/emotional and linguistic/cognitive development (each equally important) strongly affect mental and physical health , literacy and numeracy skills and life success.
It is our goal to provide a loving, caring environment, completing a wide variety of well-planned activities to ensure that each child is exposed to optimum development.
We very much encourage our children to become independent learners. We believe that parental and family involvement enables a child to learn more extensively and lays firm foundations for later learning.
Children attend Monday to Friday each week. There are 26 children in each class and after the settling in process, children will attend from 8:45/9am – 1.15/1.30pm. We run an open plan indoor and outdoor classroom where all children are able to interact with each other and all nursery staff. This also creates more opportunities to explore!
The vital links with home will be supported and strengthened as we build on the experiences the child brings form home to school in partnership with parents as we acknowledge that you are your child’s first educators.
At Taughmonagh Nursery we aim to provide exciting and stimulating learning opportunities for all children from Taughmonagh, Suffolk, Finaghy and wider communities. The basis of our curriculum is that childhood is there to be enjoyed and that Nursery should be FUN!
