The Curriculum

Throughout Nursery to Key Stage Two, we explore a range of topics such as:

  • Vikings
  • Space
  • All about me
  • Life Cycles
  • World War II
  • Keeping Safe/keeping healthy.

We employ a range of teaching styles both inside and outside the classroom.

We review our topics and highlight the connection between them to ensure our pupils are connecting learning rather than seeing this as new knowledge.

Our School follows the Curriculum for Northern Ireland and our pupils are assessed against the Levels of Progression.

Knowledge Organisers

Our staff have created knowledge organisers for our pupils for World Around Us and Literacy. These support learning and provide opportunities for retrieval practice both in school and at home. We encourage our families to take time with our pupils in the evenings to look at the Knowledge Organiser and provide retrieval opportunities within their books. The Principal and staff celebrate all retrieval evidence provided to encourage our pupils to become independent learners and to develop their long-term working memory.

We acknowledge that retrieval takes many forms and during 2025  - 2026 we have focused on Oracy and written retrieval.

A sample of a Knowledge Organiser is attached at the bottom of this page.

InnerDrive CPD Academy

Our staff have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge by having access to the InnerDrive CPD Academy. During 2025 - 2026 we have engaged with professionals involved with InnerDrive as well as providing updates of our training with parents. We have attached some InnerDrive Posters for reference at the bottom of the page.

Parents Book

Our parents are provided with an overview book on how to support retrieval at home. This book is attached at the bottom of the screen. We rely on parent engagement at home to support the vision of our school.

Key Stage Two exploratory Art Review

Taughmonagh Primary School welcomed a visit from Deirdre (Art and Design specialist) from Education Training Inspection Team today.  Currently, ETI are completing an exploratory review on Art and Design across KS2.

Primary four had the perfect opportunity to show their Willy Wonka set for World Book Day to our visitor who thought their efforts and enthusiasm were absolutely infectious.

Thank you to our staff and pupils of Taughmonagh for their continued hard work and love for our school.
